Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum

Tuol Sleng was a former secondary school which later used as the notorious Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge. It soon became the largest such center of detention and torture in the country. 

Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum today serves as a memorial site of the S-21 and a testament to the crimes of the Khmer Rouge with the aim to encourage visitors to be messengers of peace. The Tuol Sleng houses an extensive archive and numerous collections for visitors to learn about the history of Khmer Rouge Period, which focus on living conditions and the historic impact on present society.




The museum of Tuol Sleng is built for main purpose of education and investigation. There’s a source of primary materials which help Cambodians look for the fate of missing loved ones, children and youth eager can broaden their knowledge of the Khmer Rouge, and academic researchers can find out the terrible period of recent history. Besides, the Tuol Sleng offers a textile and iron tool conservation lab. Many special events, including Remembrance Day and Khmer New Year Blessing Ceremony, are took place in the museum.



Located at Chamkarmonrn Phnom Phenh, the museum opens daily from 8:00am – 5:00pm. All Cambodian citizens are free of charge while foreign adults are charged $5.00 per person and teenagers from 10 to 18 are charged $3.00 to enter the site.
