Tonle Bati

Tonle Bati (Bati Lake) is about 35km south of Phnom Penh. It is famous for an easy picnic area. Not only attract tourists with great atmosphere and natural sightseeing, there also home to an ancient temple nearby named Ta Phrom Temple.

A peaceful picnic

Located not far from the centre of Phnom Penh, Tonle Bati is a popular picnic area. It is very common for family or a group of friends get a short trip on weekend or holiday. Here you can hire one of various bamboo shacks which were built on the water and stretching along the lake. 

Without preparing for a picnic in advance, it is still convenient for you because small shops selling foods and drinks are situated along the bank of Tonle Bati Lake. Sitting on the shacks, you can eat, talk or play chess with your friends to while away a whole day.

In addition, you can take part in some other activities such as boating to visit the lake and local village nearby; or going fishing to relax your mind. Sitting or lying in the bamboo shack and getting panorama view of sightseeing here including calm- water, some small boats rowing on lake slowly, ancient temple and stretch of trees. The tranquil atmosphere will make your mind untroubled and wash away hustle of city life.

Ta Prohm Temple

Tonle Bati is a place of worship and features two ancient temples, Ta Prohm and Yeay Peov, along with a pagoda, Wat Tonle Bati, dating back to 1576.



Ta Prohm Temple

Close to the lake is an ancient temple named Ta Prohm Temple. It was built in 12th century by King Jayavarman VII. The construction has been preserved but not cleaned because people want to keep the ancient appearance of Ta Prohm. Many old trees and roots invading the here, hence it seems that they want to insist on holding and owning the ancient temple. Admire Ta Prohm temple, tourists will feel like archeologists discovering mysterious temple.
